June's Theme: Generosity

I serve an incredible group of people (that includes you!) Many people in our community have already committed themselves to living generous lives, so much so that they can at times feel they are stealing from their own health and wellbeing in an effort to serve others. When this happens, no one really wins. It’s important for the caretaker to ensure they are also being taken care of. In these moments, when we feel like we may be at our limits of what we can give - it can be helpful to shift our thinking a bit. We imagine generosity to always mean something concrete and quantitative. A particular action, a particular gifting, a particular dedication of time. But just as important is the qualitative aspect of life. Everyday you are encountering people, all of whom are yearning on a deep level to be understood and seen. It doesn’t take much for you to choose to be fully present and really see each of these people. The irony is, this may be the most meaningful gift you can give a person anyways.

THIS WEEK: Who in your life are you passing by? Is it your spouse? Is it your kids? A coworker or employee? The person at the checkout line? Try in one of these relationships to really be present with this person and notice whether it drains you or fills you up.
