I tested the sourdough starter recipe you sent. It took a few days longer than expected to get bubbly, maybe because the kitchen is a bit cool this time of year. I fed it twice daily as you suggested. The first loaf was a little dense but the flavor was incredible. I think I need to work on my shaping technique. Thanks again for the tip on using a Dutch oven, it made a huge difference in the crust.

For the trail next weekend, I definitely recommend packing layers. The forecast shows it could be warm in the sun but cool in the shade. I always bring a compact rain jacket just in case. Make sure your hiking boots are well broken in so you avoid blisters. I will bring extra trail mix and water. We can decide on the exact route when we meet at the trailhead parking lot. It should be a great day out.
