Thanks for asking about the pasta dish I tried last weekend. It turned out better than expected actually. The key was letting the sauce simmer for longer than the recipe suggested about forty five minutes instead of the recommended twenty. I used San Marzano tomatoes which made a difference in the flavor. The recipe called for basil but I added a bit of oregano and thyme as well. Next time I might try adding some sausage to give it more substance. My family enjoyed it and I will definitely be making it again. The technique of slowly rendering the garlic in olive oil before adding the tomatoes really brought out the sweetness. I found the recipe in a cookbook a friend recommended last month. She knows my taste in food pretty well at this point. The pasta shape I used was rigatoni because the ridges hold the sauce nicely. I served it with a simple side salad and some crusty bread. Overall I was pleased with how it came together and it was not as complicated as I initially thought it would be.

I wanted to follow up on our conversation about rearranging the living room layout. After measuring the space again I realized the sofa would fit better along the longer wall rather than where it is now. This would open up the area near the window for a reading chair which has been sitting in the corner collecting dust. The rug we talked about would need to be rotated to work with the new configuration. I measured the distance from the wall to the doorway and there is enough clearance for people to walk through comfortably. The bookshelf could go on the opposite side balancing out the room visually. I think we should also consider the lighting situation as the floor lamp would need to move too. The overall feel would be more open and functional for everyday use. Let me know what you think about this arrangement before I start moving furniture around this weekend. I am happy to adjust based on your preferences since you will be using the space too. The whole project should not take more than a few hours once we settle on the plan.
