Making Sense of Dementia, a Disease That Makes No Sense

Wednesday, June 24

Dementia in American Indian and Alaska Native communities is on the rise. Despite growing recognition of the disease, it can be difficult to understand it and know how best to support caregivers. This presentation will share findings from the first ever study on cultural understandings of dementia in Alaska and explain why it’s important to capture cultural understandings. The presentation will conclude with tips and recommendations for integrating cultural values and practices into caregiver programs and services.

Objectives:

  • Review Arthur Kleinman’s explanatory model of illness
  • List three reasons for integrating culture into caregiver programs and services
  • Describe the goal and purpose of the Savvy Caregiver program

NHSN and EQRS Data Submission Deadlines Approaching

Outpatient hemodialysis facilities must submit their Quarter 1 2026 National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) data by June 30, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time (PT). This includes data from January 1, 2026, through March 31, 2026, for the NHSN Bloodstream Infection in Hemodialysis Patients and COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage Among Healthcare Personnel measures.

By this deadline, dialysis facilities must also submit End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Quality Reporting System (EQRS) Clinical Data for the April 2026 reporting month. This deadline applies to all collection types (Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis) and to all submission methods.

Dialysis facilities must submit EQRS and NHSN data by each applicable deadline. Missing these deadlines puts your facility at risk for an ESRD Quality Incentive Program (QIP) payment reduction.

For questions about NHSN, contact the NHSN Help Desk via the NHSN-ServiceNow Customer Service Portal or via email at NHSN@CDC.gov.

Dialysis Facility Data Review and Submission Requirements Resource

A new resource has been posted on the EQRS.CMS.com Resources page that summarizes data review and reporting requirements and provides links to additional information. Requirements include those related to patient and facility information in EQRS, the completion of CMS forms, ESRD QIP program reporting, and the reporting of emergencies and extraordinary circumstances.

For assistance with EQRS technical issues, please contact the Center for Clinical Standards and Quality (CCSQ) Service Center. The CCSQ Service Center is open Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time and can be reached via phone at 866-288-8912, email at qnetsupport-esrd@cms.hhs.gov, or online at the CCSQ Support Center. Resources related to EQRS, ESRD QIP, transplant centers, and new EQRS users are available on the Resources page at EQRS.CMS.gov.

For assistance with general EQRS and ESRD QIP questions, please contact the ESRD QIP Team via the QualityNet Q&A Tool.
