I think the best approach for Saturday would be to start early around 7am so we can beat the heat and finish the trail before noon. The loop trail I mentioned is about 6 miles with moderate elevation gain so it should take us roughly 3 to 4 hours depending on how many stops we make for photos. I checked the weather and it looks clear with highs around 78 degrees so light layers should work well. Make sure to bring at least two liters of water per person and some snacks for the trail. The parking lot at the trailhead can fill up quickly on weekends so arriving early is definitely the way to go. If you have hiking poles those would be helpful for the rocky section near the overlook but they are not necessary. I will bring a first aid kit and some extra sunscreen just in case anyone forgets theirs. Let me know if you have any other questions about what to bring or the route itself.
I also wanted to mention that there is a nice spot about halfway where we can stop for a break with a good view of the valley. It has a couple of fallen logs that work well as benches. I have not seen any recent reports of trail closures so everything should be open. If you want to bring a light lunch we can eat at the overlook before heading back down.

I have been thinking about the best way to organize the book exchange and I think we should set up tables by genre to make it easier for people to browse. Fiction in one section non fiction in another and then a separate table for children's books. We could ask everyone to bring up to five books they no longer need and then they can take home the same number of new to them books. I can bring some folding tables and maybe some signs to label the different sections. Emily said she would help with setting up and taking down at the end. We should plan for the event to run from 10am to 2pm on a Saturday to give people plenty of time to come by. I will also bring some small sticky notes so people can leave recommendations on books they have already read. Let me know if you think we should also include DVDs or just stick to books for this first event.
I also wondered if we should ask people to bring a small snack to share since it will be around lunchtime. Nothing elaborate just some cookies or fruit would be nice. I can brew a couple of pots of coffee and have some water available. Let me know your thoughts on the date and I will start reaching out to folks to spread the word.
