France and Spain went head to head in the 100th game of the FIFA World Cup. But it was reigning European champions Spain who came out as the victors. They will face either England or Argentina in the final on Sunday.

But, before we dive into that: Australia's highest-paid executive collected almost $48 million in the 2025 financial year. And he's not the only offshore CEO to make the latest list of highest-paid CEOs of Australian publicly listed companies.

Last week's Telstra outage cost some impacted customers lost substantial earnings, like Sunshine Coast cab driver Colin Hall who estimates he lost about $300. Mr Hall says navigating the compensation process is difficult and has made him feel as though he "doesn't count".

And finally, a community-based art studio in Newcastle is proving a little creativity goes a long way towards improving the mental health of its participants.

What's the story? Despite France being pinned as the favourites in their match against European champions Spain, it was Spain that came out on top in the 100th game of the FIFA World Cup. 

The match in Dallas saw 2 points to Spain off the boot of Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro, putting them through to the final of the cup.

With four games to go, Spain will go on to face England or Argentina in the finals on Sunday.

Two of the strongest teams in the game observed a moment of silence today, marking the 10th anniversary of the 2016 terrorist attack in Nice, where 86 people were killed when a truck was deliberately driven into a crowd of people celebrating Bastille Day.

• The rich list: A trend is emerging among Australia's highest earning executives: US-based firms are increasingly behind the biggest salaries for domestic CEOs. And while many households are struggling with the cost of living, the nation's highest paid executive is earning 500 times the full-time average wage.
• Regional rise: While the world has been focused on China's growing military presence, one of its neighbours has quietly been bolstering its defence spending to match. After decades of embracing a pacifist stance, Japan is now spending record amounts on its military and inking deals with partners, including Australia.
• Telstra outage: The telco's compensation scheme is being criticised for putting the burden on customers, rather than on the company. For customers like Turab Ali, who lost hundreds of dollars in income, the lack of automatic compensation for last week's failure has left them frustrated with the country's largest communications carrier.
• US blockade: US President Donald Trump says he will not charge a 20 per cent toll on traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. The announcement came just hours before the US Navy's blockade was set to resume. You can read through the updates on our live blog.
