In retaliation for what he called "unequal treatment" of US products, Trump has imposed a 50% tariff on a range of goods imported from Canada, including wine, hockey sticks and cement. The White House said the duties would take effect in 30 days. Prime Minister Mark Carney responded by saying Canada stood ready to "intensify" trade talks with the US in the coming weeks. The new tariffs add to trade barriers already in place between the two neighbours and mark a major escalation in trade tensions between them. Upon his return to office, Trump imposed sweeping global tariffs - many of which have since been found unlawful by the US Supreme Court, prompting the president to look at other options. His latest action uses an obscure law, untested in court.

After his mum's birthday lunch, Jeremy Webb began vomiting. Doctors noted he had a suspected meat allergy, but he was sent home. A year later, he died after eating a beef sausage on a camping trip. His death is the first in the world known to have been caused by mammalian meat allergy (MMA). Diagnosed cases of the MMA have steadily escalated since 2007, when an Australian doctor first discovered the allergy was linked to tick bites.
