Ecuador was once a peaceful tourist haven in South America. But last year, the country reported one of the highest murder rates in the world. A line can be traced from the city of Durán, which is riddled with drugs and rival gangs, to London and other capitals. Around 70% of the cocaine going to Europe and the US is funnelled out of Ecuador, where Mexican cartels and Albanian mafia groups work with powerful local gangs to take advantage of the country's weak border controls, underfunded security forces and long Pacific coast. Despite the challenge, police officers fighting against the gangs - and corruption within the force - tell Orla Guerin they think the drugs war can be won.

President Donald Trump has denied that the intense strikes in the Gulf have depleted US ammunition stockpiles, despite calling on arms manufacturers to produce at "a little more speed". It's a touchy subject within the Trump administration. The kind of weapons the US needs are expensive and take several years to make. By some estimates, the stockpile may not return to pre-Iran war levels until 2031. But is the country really going through munitions so quickly that it could struggle to fulfil its military objectives?
