The Town of Sykesville unveiled renderings last week of how the site of the historic B.F. Shriver Cannery could look, after the distinctive 109-year-old building is demolished.

Two proposed zoning amendments are moving forward as Carroll County officials continue reviewing changes affecting age-restricted housing, cluster subdivisions, self-storage facilities and planned commercial centers.

The Hampstead Volunteer Fire Company is hosting the final carnival of the season through August 1, nightly from 6 to 11 p.m., at the Coppermine Pantherplex grounds.

“We have homemade sauce. We make everything from scratch, and we … like to bring back the simple ‘food done right’ concept,” a co-owner said.

Carroll County’s first McAlister’s Deli is opening Monday, hosting a ribbon-cutting with giveaways for the first 100 guests.

Carroll County Administrator Roberta Windham will retire after more than 11 years in the role. A consultant will lead a national search for her replacement.

The restored Durbin House, built in 1767, will open to the public Tuesday. It is to become the future visitor center for Wakefield Valley Park.
