Disability Inclusion in Residency and Fellowship: Trends, Policies, and Best Practices

Lecture Summary:

 

Residents and fellows with disabilities are an important and growing part of the physician workforce. This presentation reviews current trends in disability disclosure, accommodation use, and trainee experiences in graduate medical education. It examines the role of institutional policies and the legal, regulatory, and accreditation frameworks that guide disability-related decision-making. Drawing on current evidence, the session highlights considerations and emerging practices that support access, trainee success, and effective program administration.

 

The lecture will be broadcast on videocast on NIH Videocast and archived for future viewing.

The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine designates this regularly scheduled series live activity for a maximum of one (1) AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This series has been approved for a 52-week cycle beginning September 3, 2025.
