GAO Listening Session on VA Community Care Program Outreach

GAO Pic

Veterans,

The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) wants to hear from Veterans about the effectiveness of the VA’s outreach efforts for its community care program.

Through this program, eligible Veterans can receive health care from community (non-VA) providers in certain situations. Your feedback will help Congress and the VA better understand how to inform veterans about their eligibility for community care, as well as the process for obtaining it.

We are looking for Veterans who receive care through the VA to participate in small group discussions about the VA’s community care outreach efforts. If you are interested in participating, please click here.

We ask that you respond by August 21, 2026. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance!

If you have any questions, please contact us at VACommunityCare@gao.gov.

For general information about GAO’s information security and privacy practices, please visit https://www.gao.gov/surveys.

GAO is an independent, non-partisan agency that works for Congress. We provide Congress and federal agencies with objective, fact-based information to help the government save money and work more efficiently.

Veterans Crisis Line - You Are Not Alone

If you’re a Veteran and you’re struggling—or you know someone who is, please know this: you are not alone, and there is help right now. Reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness. We encourage every Veteran to connect with VA Mental Health services or, if you need someone to talk to immediately, the Veterans Crisis Line is available 24/7.

You don’t have to be enrolled in VA benefits or health care to use the Veterans Crisis Line.

The Veterans Crisis Line is confidential, free, and staffed by caring, qualified responders—many of whom are Veterans themselves. Whether you’re experiencing a crisis, feeling hopeless, or just need to talk, someone is always there to listen and help connect you with resources.

If you notice a Veteran friend or loved one struggling, don’t hesitate to reach out or encourage them to make the call. Sometimes just one conversation can save a life.

Let’s keep supporting each other, all year long. Learn more and find resources at veteranscrisisline.net.

Together, we can make a difference.
