HSE has refreshed its guidance for the food and drink industry to make it easier to protect people and places.
The guidance has been refreshed as part of a routine update programme across the whole HSE website.
Our updates have:
- removed outdated or duplicated information
- brought guidance up to date, so it reflects up-to-date legislation
- reduced the size of the site substantially, so it will be easier for you to find the advice you need
The content has been reorganised and grouped together to make it easier to protect workers. There is guidance on:
- occupational ill health risks, such as musculoskeletal disorders, asthma and hearing loss
- safety hazards like slips and trips, falls, transport and packaging machinery
- maintaining a reasonable working temperature when working with chilled and frozen products
- preventing dust explosions and selecting vacuum cleaners for flour etc
- safe handling of roll cages, wheel racks and other heavy unit loads
- controlling exposure to disinfectants
- case studies of practical and cost-effective solutions to health and safety problems
