Many sixth-round picks don’t even make NFL rosters, but Kayshon Boutte has been an ideal find for the Patriots.
After mostly redshirting as a rookie, Boutte became a starter in 2024, was one of the NFL’s best deep threats in 2025, and has been the Patriots’ best playmaker through the first two weeks of 2026 training camp.
Yet despite his emergence, Boutte sounds resigned that he could be traded or released from a crowded receiver room.
“It’s whatever’s best for me,” Boutte said last week. “Whether it’s here or somewhere else, I’ve got to do what’s best for me.”
Until recently, the Patriots had been a black hole for wide receivers. Stefon Diggs last season became their first 1,000-yard receiver in six years, then the longest active drought in the NFL. Free agents such as Calvin Ridley, Chris Godwin, and Brandon Aiyuk rebuffed the Patriots’ contract bids despite being offered more money.
Now the Patriots have the opposite problem.
