Alex Cora was managing the last time the Red Sox lost five games in a row. It was the first week of the season during the road trip to Cincinnati and Houston.
It led to a 2-8 start. Cora and six of his coaches were fired less than three weeks later.
Now the plot is thickening for interim manager Chad Tracy.
A careless error by first baseman Willson Contreras led to the Blue Jays scoring five runs in the eighth inning Wednesday night and beating the Sox, 6-4.
After their incredible run of 32 victories over 37 games, the Red Sox are learning the hard way that they can’t just coast into the postseason. It must be earned.
