Earlier this summer, Sen. Adam Schiff gave a speech on the Senate floor that, honestly, didn’t seem to get the attention it should have. The California Democrat laid out what he described as the many, many ways Donald Trump and his family have profited off of the presidency. Schiff talked about the $400 million jet Qatar gave Trump. The president’s hundreds of millions made in crypto ventures. Even the $75 million Amazon Melania documentary.
When laid out all together, it’s powerful. But we wanted to know: How exactly do you get people to care about the president enriching himself and his family when much of Trump’s behavior in office seems to get greeted by, well, shrugs?
This week on More To The Story, host Al Letson sits down with Schiff to talk about how he’s tying Trump’s growing wealth to the president’s own broken campaign promises and the rise of leftist populism. As you’ll see, Schiff is hoping the argument resonates with voters as summer winds down and the midterms approach. We hope you’ll give it a listen.
