Hi ala,
I was listening to a story on the radio about Amelia Earhart. One of my childhood fascinations (obsessions), Earhart was more than an aviator, she was an influencer well before the advent of the internet, smart phones and social media.
In 1928 she joined Cosmopolitan as their aviation editor, touting the benefits of air travel, especially for women. Earhart used speaking engagements to raise money to fund her flights.
Speaking wasn't the end goal for her. It made her mission possible. She understood something about speaking that a lot of people still miss today. Not every speaker needs to be a professional speaker. Speaking can help support your other businesses. Speaking builds your visibility, reinforces your credibility, and connects you with people who can help you soar.
In her first article for Cosmo, Earhart wrote that "Try flying yourself" should be aviation's first commandment. I'd argue that "Try speaking yourself" should be ours, especially if you have a business to grow.
