even my dog couldn't help me

I hit rock bottom with clinical depression nearly 2 years ago at the doctor's office.

He had me filling out a PHQ-9 / GAD-7 form.

I hope you don't already know this, but it asks you questions about your mental well-being.

Things like:

"How often are you feeling bad about yourself – or that you are a failure or have let yourself or your family down"?

and

"How often are you having thoughts that you would be better off dead, or of hurting yourself in some way"?

If you recognize yourself in these, tell someone. A doctor, a friend, anyone.

Even seeing my dog didn't make me happy the way it normally would.

And feeling like a lazy sad sack made it worse.

So I made one rule.

No zero days.

Something. Every single day until I got better.

If I couldn't do 100% of the workout, I'd do what I could. If that was too much, I'd walk.

That was the permission slip I needed. It kept me in momentum.

I still use it.

I've never felt more positive mentally.

The only real exhaustion I feel now comes from chasing something I actually want.
