First Day of School is August 24!

First Day of School

Monday, August 24, is the first day of school. See the complete school year calendar.

We had a great time seeing families during our Family Reunion on Friday! Students and families were excited to meet their teachers, see friends, and tour the school. We can’t wait to see our students tomorrow morning on the first day of the 2026-2027 school year!

The doors open for students at 8:25 am. Our bell schedule is 8:45-3:30 each day. Families, thank you for reviewing arrival and dismissal methods with your children. It is our goal to begin reinforcing routines and procedures beginning day one. Therefore, family members will not be able to walk students to class on Monday. If your child is a bus rider, we strongly encourage you have them take the bus beginning the first day of school. Thank you!

FCPS parents, students, and staff members are invited to share their favorite pictures or videos from the first day of school on social media using the hashtag #FirstDayFairfax. Follow FCPS and your school on social media to see photos and videos throughout the school year!

Student ID Cards for Parklawn Bus Riders

We will soon begin distributing student ID cards to all our students who ride the school bus or use FCPS transportation services. Once they are ready, we will have the students wear the badges home on lanyards. The students are to wear them to school and on the way home every day they ride the school bus.  We will send a Talking Points Message on the first day the badges are sent home so families will be aware.

Students who have student ID cards should begin tapping as they board and exit the bus. Only students who use FCPS transportation services will be provided with a student ID card at this time.

We ask for your patience! Bus drivers will begin checking in students next week and may need some extra time at each bus stop while they do this. The transportation team is working hard to minimize any potential delays.

Learn more about the bus navigation and student ID cards.

Help Your Child Navigate the Lunch Line

A girl smiles while eating an orange.

Check out some tips to help your child get through the lunch line quickly and have more time to eat:

  • Remember that as a CEP school, all students at Parklawn receive free breakfast and lunch regardless of economic status.
  • Sign up for and add money to MySchoolBucks to purchase snacks or additional items
  • Teach your child their student ID number to receive meals at school.

If your child has any food allergies, learn how to submit accommodations for dietary restrictions and allergens

Access menus for breakfast, lunch, and other school meals, as well as allergen and nutrition information.

Labor Day

Calendar Reminder graphic

Friday, September 4, and Monday, September 7, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. Virginia legislation requires that schools opening prior to Labor Day must be closed the Friday immediately preceding Labor Day. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends. See the complete school year calendar.

Back to School Night and Family Picnic: September 9!

Parklawn’s Back to School Night and family picnic is an opportunity for families to learn about the upcoming school year. We invite you to bring your own picnic dinner and join us at 5:00 for our family picnic. The Back-to-School Night sessions will run from 5:45-7:30.
