What an exciting start to another school year at Centreville High School! It was amazing to see our new students yesterday for orientation, and to feel the buzz and excitement at Wildcat Welcome last night! Thank you to all the students and families who joined us for this long-standing tradition.
As we welcome our students back, we have so much to celebrate and even more to look forward to. Last year, we remained focused on creating classrooms where every student can learn and grow, building a school community where everyone feels welcomed and supported, and continuing to get better, together. The hard work of our students, combined with the dedication of our staff and support of our families, made a tremendous difference. I am incredibly proud to share that Centreville has been named a VDOE Distinguished School! This recognition is a reflection of our entire Wildcat community, and we are excited to build upon that success this year.
As we move forward, we will continue to focus on creating the conditions for every student to be successful. We recognize that adjusting to a school day without cell phones will take some time, but we are also excited about the opportunity it creates for students to be more present, engage more fully in their learning, and build stronger connections with their peers and our staff. We will also continue to emphasize the importance of regular, on-time attendance. Simply put, being at school matters. The most meaningful learning, relationships, and experiences happen when students are here, and we appreciate our families' partnership in helping students arrive each day ready to learn.
Finally, throughout the year, you will hear us reinforce the values that define what it means to ROAR as a Wildcat: Relationships, Ownership, Awareness, and Resiliency. We want our students to build relationships that help everyone feel connected and valued; take ownership of their choices, learning, and success; demonstrate awareness of themselves, others, and the impact of their actions; and show resiliency when things do not go as planned. These values extend well beyond the classroom and represent the kind of community we want to continue building together.

August 24 - First Day of School: We will begin our first morning together in ROAR, our advisory period designed to help students build meaningful connections with one another and our staff while receiving important information and support for success throughout the year. Because we will begin with ROAR, students will attend classes in the order of Periods 3, 1, 5, and 7 on the first day. Academy students will attend their classes as scheduled.
August 26 & 28 - Senior Seminar: On August 26th and August 28th, seniors will attend Senior Seminar during ROAR. Students with last names A-Kel will attend on 8/26, and last names Kh-Z on 8/28. This presentation will include information on post-secondary options, processes and procedures for applying to college, and planning resources. Students will receive a copy of their graduation progress to help keep them on track for graduation in June. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend Senior Night to review this important information as well on September 2nd at 6:00PM.
August 28 - Senior Sunrise: Seniors, start your final year together at Senior Sunrise on August 28 at 6:00 a.m.! We’re looking forward to a memorable morning celebrating the Class of 2027 and kicking off an exciting senior year. Families interested in helping make this event fantastic can sign up using the link. August 31 - September 3 - Fall Music Auditions: The Centreville Theatre Department and Theatre Centreville Presents are excited to announce auditions for the Fall Musical, Mean Girls. All students grades 9-12 are eligible to audition. Auditions will take place the second week of school Auditions dates and times: August 31-September 3 from 3-6 pm.

- Day 3- Reading from the script
- Day 4- Final Callbacks
Tech Week and Performances will be November 5-15 with performances taking place on Nov. 12-15. Students should not have any conflicts during tech week and performances. Audition packets and information will be outside of the theatre room in Room 247. Please see Mr. McGee in Room 247 for any questions.
September 2 - Back to School Night: We’re excited to invite you to Centreville’s Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 2 starting at 7:00PM. There will be a specialized program for our Senior Parents from 6:00-6:45PM to address the unique needs of the Class of 2027. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet your child’s teachers, learn about classroom expectations, and see how we can work together for a successful school year.
September 9 & 10 - School Picture Days: School Picture Day for all 9th–11th grade students and staff will take place on Wednesday, September 9th and Thursday, September 10th. As a general rule, 9th and 10th graders will take their photos during their PE classes, while 11th graders will take theirs during English class. Please stay tuned for full schedule details and purchasing information in the coming weeks.
September 12 - Food For Neighbors Red Bag Event: Centreville High School is proud to partner with Food For Neighbors (FFN) to help feed our local students who deal with food insecurity because even in a county as wealthy as Fairfax, one in four kids in our area are struggling with hunger. Food For Neighbors is a local organization addressing this problem by collecting food from our community via their Red Bag Program and donating directly to our local schools. The food is then distributed to the students every week through our food pantry. Five times a year, donors fill our Red Bags with food and toiletries and leave them on their doorsteps for collection. Volunteers pick up the bags, sort the donations, and deliver them to partnering schools, where staff connect the vital resources with students in need. September 17 - PTSA Meeting: Please join us for the monthly PTSA meeting on Thursday, September 17 at 6:00PM in the Centreville High School Library. We invite you to join the Parent, Teacher, Student Association (PTSA) to help foster a positive and inclusive school climate. Your involvement in PTSA is an opportunity to strengthen relationships and make a lasting impact on our school community. September 19 - Music Tag Day: Tag Day is the music department’s biggest fundraiser each year. Groups of students with a parent chaperone go door to door, asking for monetary donations in support of the Band, Choir and Orchestra programs. The funds raised provide sectional instruction, the purchase of equipment and music and more. Thank you in advance for supporting our performing arts programs!
Building Community at Our Wildcat Welcome!: Yesterday’s Wildcat Welcome was a fantastic success, bringing together our school-based clubs, activities, athletics, and community partners under one roof! Attendees were treated to energetic performances by our band and many other talented groups, making it an incredible opportunity to connect and celebrate before we kick off the new school year on Monday. We extend a huge thank you to all the students, staff, families, and community members who joined us to keep this long-standing tradition alive and vibrant. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back for an exciting first week!
Student ID Cards for Bus Riders: We will begin distributing student ID cards to all our students who ride the school bus or use FCPS transportation services. Students who have student ID cards should begin tapping as they board and exit the bus. Only students who use FCPS transportation services will be provided with a student ID card at this time. We ask for your patience! Bus drivers will begin checking in students next week and may need some extra time at each bus stop while they do this. The transportation team is working hard to minimize any potential delays. Learn more about the bus navigation and student ID cards.
Update Your Child’s Immunizations and Records: Please check with your healthcare provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up-to-date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia. Prior to the start of school on Monday, August 24, please submit your child’s immunization documentation. If your child has an appointment to receive their required immunizations after August 24, please submit an Immunization Action Plan to confirm the appointment. You can check your child’s immunization compliance and submit their immunization record in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to a school’s front office. If needed, families may also provide other immunization documentation including a healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption or a notarized Religious Exemption Form. Please visit the FCPS How to Submit Immunization Documentation webpage for step-by-step instructions on how to submit each of these items.
Immunization Events for FCPS Students: FCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will be providing school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students, ages 18 and under, with no out-of-pocket costs. Multiple events will take place at designated FCPS locations. Additional dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary. Additional immunization resources are also available.
Crossing Guard Update: Beginning this school year, Fairfax County will no longer assign crossing guards to our school. As always, we encourage students, families, and drivers to use extra caution when traveling to and from school, follow all traffic laws, and remain alert to pedestrians and other vehicles. Because traffic patterns may be different, please allow a few extra minutes when arriving at or departing from school.
Get Ready for Day One with the FCPS App!: As we gear up for the first day of school, make sure you have the FCPS mobile app downloaded! It's the quickest way to check the school year calendar, view lunch and breakfast menus, find school contacts, and jump to ParentVUE or Schoology from your phone. Download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Help Your Child Navigate the Lunch Line: Check out some tips to help your child get through the lunch line quickly and have more time to eat:
- Teach your child their student ID number to receive meals at school.
- Sign up for and add money to MySchoolBucks to purchase meals at school.

Apply for free and reduced-price meals. Students who were approved for free and reduced-price meals last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should submit a new application as soon as possible, so eligible students continue to receive meals at no cost.
If your child has any food allergies, learn how to submit accommodations for dietary restrictions and allergens. Access menus for breakfast, lunch, and other school meals, as well as allergen and nutrition information.
You Can Manage Student Web Access at Home: At Centreville High School, we acknowledge that parents are our students' first and most important teachers. Parents now have greater control over their child’s FCPS-issued device outside of school hours through Lightspeed Parent Portal. In addition to monitoring weekly internet activity, parents can now also customize web access at home on FCPS devices through Lightspeed using Schedules and Web Rules.
- With Schedules, you can set tailored times to automatically pause or restrict internet access. This makes it easier to enforce rules around homework time, family dinners, weekends, or bedtime.
- In Web Rules, you can create Custom Block Lists to block specific, individual websites they do not want your child accessing at home. This allows parents greater control over what is happening online, under their own roof.
These new custom controls take effect at home, outside of school hours, and when the device is off the FCPS network. They will not override standard district filtering policies during the instructional day.
Customize Your Lightspeed Settings: All parents should be receiving weekly Lightspeed Online Student Activity Report emails. To set up these new features, click the “Log in or Register” button at the bottom of your weekly Lightspeed Online Student Activity Report email. Visit the FCPS Lightspeed Parent Portal Guide for more information. If you have additional questions, submit a Parent Technology Support Ticket. Parents are encouraged to discuss internet boundaries with their children so that they can understand the reasoning behind any limits and the differences between access at home and at school. Get tips on talking to your children about technology safety.
Catch Up on Your Child’s Classwork in Schoology: Teachers use Schoology to post their classroom materials online; to provide a secure forum for students to discuss their ideas and collaborate on projects; and to assign and collect homework electronically. It helps students stay organized, and it keeps the class connected. To access Schoology, parents will need to have an active SIS/ParentVUE account. Get more information on how to login and use Schoology. A Schoology Parent Account gives you access to:
- Your child’s classes.
- Your child’s upcoming assignments.
- School, class, and group announcements.
Tarjetas de identificación para los estudiantes que utilizan el autobús: Comenzaremos a distribuir tarjetas de identificación a todos los estudiantes que viajan en el autobús escolar o utilizan los servicios de transporte de FCPS. Por eso, ahora los padres pueden tener mayor control sobre el acceso a internet desde los dispositivos de FCPS cuando sus hijos lo usan en casa, a través del Portal para padres de Lightspeed. Además de recibir información sobre la actividad semanal en internet, ahora puede establecer límites de acuerdo con las necesidades y rutinas de su familia utilizando las funciones Schedules (Horarios) y Web Rules (Reglas web).
- Con Schedules (Horarios), puede elegir en qué momentos desea pausar o restringir automáticamente el acceso a internet. Por ejemplo, puede establecer límites durante la hora de hacer tarea, las comidas en familia, los fines de semana o antes de dormir.
- Con Web Rules (Reglas web), puede bloquear sitios web específicos que no desea que su estudiante visite mientras usa su dispositivo de FCPS en casa. Así, usted puede decidir qué tipo de acceso es apropiado para su familia fuera del horario escolar.
