Welcome back!
Dear Orange Hunt Families,
Greetings, and welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! We hope that you had a wonderful summer filled with relaxation, great memories, and time with your loved ones. At Orange Hunt, we have spent the summer preparing for our new school year with great enthusiasm, and we cannot wait to have you join us.
First Day of School - August 24th
We have set up an arrival process to help keep our school safe and orderly.
Kiss-n-Ride
Kiss-n-Ride (Doors 7 and 8) will open at 8:20am. Parents dropping off at Kiss-n-Ride should be sure to stay in line and follow the directions of the staff stationed outside. Please pull up as far as possible and only let students out on the sidewalk-side of the car once staff have stopped you between Doors 7-8. Students dropped off at Kiss-n-Ride will proceed to the gym to wait for the official first bell at 8:30am.
Walkers: Doors 1, 3, 4, and 6 will open for walkers and bus riders at 8:30am. Families are welcome to walk their child to their classroom on the first day of school. It is expected that this is a quick drop-off and kiss/hug goodbye.
Bus Transportation: The Office of Transportation will contact you via phone, email, and/or text message with your child’s bus number, pick up and drop times, and location.
Cafeteria: Breakfast will start at 8:30am in the cafeteria. Students who purchase breakfast in the cafeteria will take their food to their classroom to eat during arrival and morning announcements. Breakfast and lunch may be purchased in the cafeteria. Money should be loaded on your child’s www.MySchoolBucks.com account prior to the first day of school.
Dismissal: To help facilitate successful arrival and dismissal procedures, it is best for students to use their normal transportation plan on the first day of school. Kindergarten walkers will use Door 4 for dismissal.
Communication: Effective communication between home and school is essential for our students' success. Please ensure that your contact information is current. Your child’s teacher and official school communications will provide regular updates. Please sign up for a SIS account. The SIS ParentVUE Account (Student Information System ParentVUE Account) is the FCPS secure solution for accessing information about your child's attendance, class performance, standardized test results, demographic data, and link to Schoology. It provides an additional conduit for communication with your child's school.
During the school year, if you have concerns about your child's academic performance, issues with friends, or social-emotional wellness, please connect with your child’s teacher and work together to resolve the concerns. Everyone at Orange Hunt wants to see all students thrive.
School Supplies/Resources: You can find our school supply lists here. If you need assistance procuring these supplies or school resources, please do not hesitate to contact our school social worker, Pamela Jordan.
Lunch: Free and Reduced-Price Meal applications are now available on the FCPS website. Interested families are encouraged to submit the application at least ten days before the first day of school. A new application must be submitted every school year.
Regular Arrival: Starting on Day 2, families are able to walk their students to their classroom door after checking in with their ID in the front office.
Students arriving after 8:50 a.m. must be escorted to Door 1 and signed in by a parent in the main office.
Updates to Technology in School
The Virginia legislature has passed a law updating what personal electronics are permitted in school. Starting this year, students must turn off and place in backpacks all personal electronics, including cell phones, smart watches, laptops, and wireless headphones. Students may not wear these items during the school day in the building.

Summer Reading at Orange Hunt
Summer reading is an important way to help prevent the "summer slide" and keep students engaged in learning during the break. There are several opportunities available this summer to encourage students to read for 20–30 minutes each day.
Students may also choose to participate in the Orange Hunt Summer Reading Program, which celebrates America's 250th Anniversary with fun reading challenges. We encourage all our students to make reading part of their summer routine and enjoy exploring new books all season long! Printable version here (flyers will come home with students as well).
Read to celebrate America's 250th birthday! Complete at least four activities and turn it into your teacher by August 28th for a water bottle reading sticker. you can also complete this online form by August 28th.
