You know how sometimes you put something off for weeks and then the moment you finally deal with it, it takes about three minutes? I just cleaned out the drawer under the microwave and I honestly thought a small civilization had taken root in there. Half the stuff I didn't even recognize. Old sauce packets from some takeout we got back in the winter, a stray birthday candle, and three rubber bands that have somehow fused together into one useless loop. Anyway, I mentioned it to my sister and she laughed for a solid minute because apparently she had the exact same drawer situation last month. She told me to stop saving tiny bits of things I will never use again and honestly, fair point. I think there is something freeing about tossing the little clutter, even if it feels wasteful for a second. Later tonight I might tackle the shelf above the washer, which has become a graveyard for orphaned socks and dusty bottles. We will see how long that motivation lasts. My guess is about ten minutes before I sit down and watch something instead. But at least the microwave drawer is clear now. That counts for something, right?

I was trying to explain to my neighbor why I still keep a paper calendar on the fridge when every phone in the house has a calendar built in. She thought it was funny because I barely remember to check the paper version anyway. But there is something about seeing the whole month at once that I like. We ended up talking about how we plan meals now versus ten years ago. She does the whole weekly grid thing with a dry erase board, and I admitted I mostly fly by whatever looks good at the market on any given day. It was one of those conversations that starts small and then suddenly you realize an hour went by. We also spent a while comparing notes on which produce lasts longest in the crisper drawer. She swears by wrapping lettuce in paper towels, and I have to say I started doing that and it actually helps. Not everything needs a fancy solution, I guess. Sometimes it is just the small habit that makes the week a little easier.
