CROISSANTS OR SNOW GLOBES?

Hi ala,

I've always said that authorship and speaking go hand-in-hand. If you literally "wrote the book" on your topic, you have a better shot at being chosen as a speaker on a topic you might share with gazillions of other speakers.

Authorship also gives you business model options. The organization might not have a budget for speakers but they might have a swag budget, an educational materials budget or a budget for VIP gifts. Boom! You walk out the door with a payday... and your book in the hands of loads of prospective clients. Good job, Author!

But beware. There's also a trap in being an author. Make sure you are selling in bulk. There's no joy in being relegated to the back of the room, trying to hawk your book to passersby, even if you were the keynote. Make the big sale to the organizers and there's no chance you will be forced to lug home the unsold stock.

You want that extra luggage space for...croissants! (In my family, there's the I-swear-true-story of my legendary Aunt Louise, who went to Paris in 1962 on her honeymoon and came back with a suitcase full of the flaky pastry.) It doesn't have to be croissants. It could be snow globes, model trains, or seashells. Check the suitcase with the snow globes please. No liquid in your carryon.

Either way, this is just one of the insights I originally learned from the Speaker Friends. Come and join us today! Links below!

LIONESS EVENTS

September Lioness Roundtable: Accountability That Actually Works

📅 Date: Tuesday, September 22nd

🕒 Time: 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. ET

We all have goals. The harder part is consistently doing the work required to reach them. Could the right accountability group make the difference?

Join us for a facilitated roundtable discussion about accountability: what works, what doesn’t, and what we need from each other to keep moving forward. We’ll explore different approaches to accountability groups, how to set expectations and commitments, what makes people actually show up and follow through, and how to provide support without turning the group into another networking meeting or advice session.

Come prepared to share your experiences, challenges and ideas. Together, we’ll identify the ingredients of an accountability group that helps members turn good intentions into measurable progress.
