Join Globe columnist Shirley Leung in conversation with author Janice Page about her new memoir, "Year of the Water Horse." ​ A New York Times Editors' Choice, the book chronicles a journey that began in Braintree, where Janice grew up in a middle-class family and, as a teenager, landed a part-time job in a local Chinese restaurant that changed her life. Janice, a former Globe features editor, weaves a complex love story across cultures—one that begins in whitebread Massachusetts and brings her to rural China, where she adopts a baby girl. Shirley and Janice reconnected earlier this year on the Globe's Say More podcast ​, and are excited to continue the conversation live at the Milton Public Library.

Now a devoted mother of three, her quiet suburban life is shattered when DNA evidence links her to the infamous cold case of “Geauga’s Child,” leading to her arrest for murder. Facing a possible life sentence, Gail must confront the weight of societal and religious pressures—and her own long-buried shame—to fight for her freedom.

Following the screening, join a conversation with director Jessica Earnshaw and WBUR host Deborah Becker on the making of the film and the questions it raises about maternal mental health, the criminal justice system, and the untold stories of women in crisis.
