Mike Vrabel and Eliot Wolf didn’t seem too thrilled with the state of the Patriots’ roster in recent appearances with the media.
The release of the Patriots’ first 53-man roster Sunday night pretty much confirmed it.
To be fair, the top end of the Patriots’ roster may be better than last year’s Super Bowl team. Drake Maye and Christian Gonzalez are budding superstars entering their prime. A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs should be upgrades at receiver. And the offensive line should be improved. The Patriots also survived training camp with most of their starters healthy for Week 1, which is arguably the most important outcome.
Yet the back half of their roster seems like a mess — at least, that’s the impression the Patriots themselves are giving.
