We’re officially into week two at KG! There’s lots happening as the school year gets into full swing. Here’s what to know this week!

Annual Giving: We're Over 30% of the way there!

Did you love the Welcome Back Picnic? Annual Giving helps make events like that possible! It’s the PTA’s biggest fundraiser and supports Teacher Appreciation Week, STEAM Night, author visits, classroom resources, and improvements around our school. Past donations have helped fund projects like the renovated courtyard, new cafeteria and picnic tables, and an outdoor weather center.

And get ready... our Grade-Level Giving Challenge starts next week! Grades will compete to unlock fun grade-level rewards, with a special prize for the grade with the highest participation.

Back-to-School Night Tonight: Join us at KG tonight, from 5–7:15 p.m.

KG Movie Night is Coming!

Join us Friday, September 25 for The Super Mario Bros. Movie on the KG lawn! The lawn opens at 6:30 p.m. and the movie starts at 7 p.m.

Admission is free, but tickets are required. Light concessions will be available.

Want pizza? Whole pizzas must be pre-ordered! Get your tickets and pre-order pizza HERE.

Bring a blanket or low chair (and a tarp if the ground is wet!).

Volunteer Opportunities:

Movie Night Volunteers: Help make KG Movie Night a success! We need volunteers to help with setup, concessions, and more. Sign up to help here.
Compost Helpers: Help students sort their lunch waste for composting alongside Ms. Waters during lunch. Sign up for a time slot here
Food Bus Volunteers: Have 30 minutes to spare on a Friday afternoon? Help deliver rescued food from KG to the SHARE of McLean Food Pantry. Sign up for a Friday delivery here. Middle and high school students can earn service hours, too!

Afterschool Academies Registration Opens on September 15th

The KGES PTA Afterschool Academies are back for Fall 2026! Check out the schedule below and start planning your picks.

Registration opens Tuesday, September 15 at 9 a.m. Popular classes can fill quickly, so register early!

Registration closes Sunday, September 27 at 11:59 p.m.

Clubs & Activities

Chess Club: Grades 2–6 meet Wednesday afternoons to learn strategies, build chess skills, and play with other KG students. Registration is open through September 11 or until full.
Girls on the Run: Open to girls in grades 3–6, with practices on Mondays and Wednesdays after school beginning September 21. Register here for Girls on the Run or contact kges.gotr@gmail.com with questions.
K–2 Soccer: New this fall! KG is partnering with 1 Ball 1 Game for a six-week K–2 soccer season with weekday practices and Saturday games. No experience needed. Register for K–2 Soccer.
Math Competition Club: Open to students in grades 3–6 who are interested in challenging math problems, problem-solving strategies, and math competitions. Registration is open for Grade 3 and Grades 4-6.
Science Olympiad: Students in grades 3–6 work with Mr. Shivnen on hands-on science challenges and prepare to compete with other schools across Virginia. Registration is open for Grades 3-4 and Grades 5-6.

Community Submissions:

Join Scouts: Open to boys and girls in grades K–5! Scouts enjoy campouts, hikes, archery, Pinewood Derby, special sleepovers, and more. Join the Parent Info & Welcome Night on Zoom September 10 at 6:30 p.m. Learn more about Pack 1127 or join the Zoom meeting (Meeting ID: 929 7282 6308).
McLean Dance Team Clinic: Join the McLean High School Dance Team on October 12 for a day of dancing, games, and fun! Open to ages 6–13, with an optional halftime performance at the October 23 football game. Register here.
Redeemer Renaissance Preschool & After-School Programs: Registration is open for the 2026–27 school year for children ages 1.5–5. Redeemer Renaissance also offers after-school programming for elementary students, including sports, STEAM, music, science, French, art, tutoring, and more.
