I think the trick with that oven is you have to let it preheat way longer than the dial says. Mine always runs about twenty degrees cool on the top rack, which is a pain when you are doing anything with a crust.
Honestly I just keep a cheap thermometer hanging off the middle rack and go by that instead of the knob. It has saved me from so many half-risen loaves and soggy-bottomed pies. Yesterday I did a double batch of drop biscuits and they actually came out even, which never happens for me.
The trick is rotating the pan halfway through and not opening the door too much. Also, for what it is worth, the convection setting on mine just makes everything dry out faster. I use the regular bake setting for almost everything now. If you want a good top brown on a casserole, you can switch to broil for the last ninety seconds and watch it like a hawk.
Are you still using that cast iron skillet? I seasoned mine with grapeseed oil last weekend and it finally stopped sticking. Took three rounds in a hot oven with a light wipe between each one, but now eggs slide right off. Anyway, let me know how your next bake turns out.

That is a good point about the library on Saturdays. They keep saying they are going to extend the hours but I think it never actually happens. I went over there last weekend around three and the reading room was already locked up. The one down on fourth street stays open until six but the parking is a whole situation on a nice day.
Did you get a chance to look at the new community garden list? A few plots opened up near the east gate and they are going to assign them by lottery at the next meeting. I put my name in but I have no idea how many people signed up. If you want in, you should email the coordinator before Thursday.
Also, the walking group is doing that loop near the reservoir again this week. Last time we saw a heron standing in the shallows for a solid ten minutes. I am going to try to join on Wednesday if the rain holds off. We usually meet at the old boathouse and head out around seven.
Let me know about the plots if you hear anything. I can bring an extra thermos for the walk.
