Interfaith Resource Fair on Social Safety Net Services
Community members can stop by anytime during the event to learn about Arlington resources for residents in need. Whether you work directly with faith communities or not, understanding available resources can help you connect residents with support.

Recovery Month and Suicide Prevention Month Event
Community members can watch a screening of Beyond Silence and join a conversation about recovery, resilience, and reducing stigma around mental health. Attendees can also connect with local resources and others in the community.

 Residents and businesses can take simple steps to strengthen their emergency preparedness during National Preparedness Month. Sign up for Arlington Alert, make a plan (English | Español), and build an emergency kit. Use this bilingual low- and no-cost preparedness tip sheet for budget-friendly preparedness suggestions.

New Food Security Grants and Strategic Plan Released
Community organizations can apply for new food security grants and learn about Arlington County's updated Food Security Strategic Plan, which outlines priorities for strengthening food access and building a more resilient local food system over the next five years. Grant applications are due October 5.

New Benefit Eligibility for Qualified Noncitizens
Community members and service providers can use a new Virginia Department of Social Services chart to learn how recent federal changes may affect SNAP, TANF, and Medicaid eligibility for some noncitizens. The chart explains how the changes apply to specific immigration statuses and is available in Amharic, Arabic, Dari, English, Pashto, Spanish, Swahili, Ukrainian, and Urdu.

Volunteer as a Snow Buddy
 Looking to make a meaningful difference during the next snowstorm? Volunteer Snow Buddies will be paired with 1-2 neighbors prior to the snow season and will self-activate throughout the winter season, following up with their neighbor to continue snow clearing efforts within 1-3 days of each snowfall.

Community members and partners can use the new DHS resource flyer to find County services for housing, food assistance, health care, behavioral health, children and families, older adults, caregivers, and more. The flyer includes key contact information and office locations.

New EBT Chip Cards Coming This Fall
Virginia SNAP recipients will get new chip-enabled EBT cards this fall to help protect benefits from fraud. Arlington recipients should get their cards in November. To prepare, make sure DHS has your current mailing address and set up a ConnectEBT account to manage your card and monitor your benefits.

Medicaid Changes Coming in 2027
Some Virginia Medicaid members may see changes beginning January 1, 2027, including new work requirements and eligibility renewals every six months instead of annually. These changes only apply to certain adults enrolled through Medicaid Expansion and do not apply to many groups, including pregnant and postpartum people, caregivers of young children, and people with disabilities or serious health conditions.
Members should make sure their contact information is up to date through CommonHelp to receive future notices.
