Can You Read Spanish? Latin? Catalan? The Library of Congress Needs Your Help What can you learn about the history of Spain from a 500-year-old will? This is the question behind the transcription campaign for the Law Library of Congress’s Spanish Legal Documents collection. In 2020, By the People launched a campaign for the Spanish Legal Documents collection as “Herencia: Centuries of Spanish Legal Documents.” Through transcription, the Law Library has found many fascinating stories within these seemingly dry legal texts, from French hat smuggling to 18th century marriage orders and their consequences, and how Havana became British … for eleven months. Do you want to connect with world history through multiple languages and practice your Spanish, Latin, and Catalan as you help us complete this collection?
