TOP STORY |
Travel seasonality may be growing less predictable. Extreme summer heat is pushing some travelers toward the fall, better price-discovery tools are making overlooked deals harder to secure, and airlines facing elevated fuel costs are leaning into higher-margin demand. |
The result is that the deals travelers once found during the off-peak shoulder season, generally September through mid-November, are becoming harder to find. When Expedia compared prices across the 10 most popular US destinations, it found fall lodging prices were 20% higher than during the summer, while airfare was 2% higher. |

IN THE NEWS
Sephora brings exclusive product drops to TikTok Shop in the US. Sephora Drop Shop will feature monthly releases supported by teasers, interactive experiences, and curator-led content that encourages consumers to guess which brand will be featured. |
| |
Picky consumers punish retailers’ merchandise mistakes. Choosy consumers haven’t stopped spending, but they are penalizing retailers that misjudge what shoppers want. |
| |
Costco’s value proposition wins over higher-income grocery shoppers. More than 1 in 10 (11%) US consumers in households earning at least $150,000 say Costco is their primary grocery store, per a recent YouGov survey. |

ANALYSIS |
Advertisers who block news content are missing opportunities to reach engaged, high-value audiences while inadvertently undermining the financial foundation of quality journalism. |
“Advertisers are allergic to the news, oftentimes for the wrong reason,” said Michael Weaver, senior vice president of business development and growth at Al Jazeera Media Network during EMARKETER’s Reframing Brand Safety in News Environments event last week. “But it's so neglected as a category, it's easy for a brand to distinguish itself when it really leans into the news.” |
