I'm throwing it back one last time to summer and the soccer-viewing frenzy that was the FIFA World Cup. When the United States team still seemed like it was on the verge of something special, people came out in droves to bars and restaurants to watch them play. The drinks and entrees ordered sure were good for business, as it was standing room only at the most popular haunts. But the ones off the beaten path welcome us with open arms anyway. That's how we felt at Park Avenue Tacos off Colfax, where we were able to snag seats to watch the U.S. play and grab some good old-fashioned Mexican food. My carne asada burrito was smothered in pork green chili, topped with melted cheese and doused with sour cream. I washed it down with a cold Modelo. The U.S. men's team won; we sang "Take Me Home, Country Roads;" and headed home while the sun was still high in the sky. Scenes and moments like these made for me an unforgettable summer.
