| Lesson 5 · Travis picking |
Hey Tomasz, No new technique today. That's the point of today. Four bars of C, four of A minor, and back around. That is the whole map. Play pattern 1 through it and that's not an exercise anymore. It's a song, and you built every piece of it this week without noticing. That rhythm, technique then a song, is how the whole twenty days run. The same picking hand you drilled yesterday, moved between two chords. Two rules make it music instead of practice. Hold each chord until the last possible moment before the switch, because the pattern hides a slow change almost completely. And the thumb never stops for anything. If the chord lands messy, let it be messy and catch it next bar. Try it now: 8 minutes Loop it: 4 bars C, switch, 4 bars Am, switch. Around and around, slow. Once with your palm resting on the bass strings, once with it off. Keep your favourite. The pass mark: record the whole loop on your phone. The thumb never stopped once, both switches included. TOMORROW → your left hand gets the spotlight: the biggest stretch so far, and the laziest chord ever invented. This is the shape of the whole new course. A few days of one small technique, then a song that uses it. Four songs in twenty days. See The New Course Picky, concentrating. Talk soon,
