Stallion Activities Update 09/13

Cross Country had a strong showing at the Patriot Invitational, a two-mile course featuring a challenging hill. Despite the early start, the teams were grateful to finish before the heat became oppressive. The Girls A team placed 8th out of 14 teams, led by Ariana Mather, who finished 5th overall in 12:37.64, and Aniston Casne, who placed 12th in 13:01.42; Justice Owens, a junior transfer who recently moved from Japan, added a 7th-place finish in the Girls B race. The Boys A team finished 12th out of 15 teams, led by Alex Featherly in 3rd place at 10:05.39 and Ben Kosowski in 5th at 10:11.71, while Julien Siberon Casablanca finished 3rd in the Boys B race with a time of 11:24.42. In total, 20 boys and 12 girls competed across the four races.

Field hockey played back-to-back games against out-of-region opponents Westfield and Herndon. The Stallions dropped a tough 2-1 contest to Westfield, narrowly missing a game-tying goal at the buzzer after the ball went off a South County foot. The team bounced back the next day with an outstanding effort from start to finish, defeating Herndon 2-0. Sophomore Tayler Miller and junior Kylee Campbell each scored the first goals of their careers during the week.

Football had its bye week and will travel to Richmond on Thursday to take on Highland Springs.

Golf continued to post strong rounds while facing an undefeated Robinson squad. The Stallions shot another solid team score of 160 but were edged by the Rams, who finished with a 147.

Boys volleyball played five-set matches on both Wednesday and Thursday. The Stallions jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Hayfield before the Hawks battled back to tie the match, but South County locked in and secured the victory by taking the fifth set 15-12. The following day, the Stallions battled Robinson in another back-and-forth five-set match, ultimately falling to the Rams.

Girls volleyball went 1-1 on the week, suffering its first loss of the season. South County looked strong against Hayfield on Wednesday, earning a 3-1 victory, before traveling to Robinson on Thursday. Although every set was tightly contested, the Stallions were unable to find their rhythm and fell 3-1.
