Hello Lake Anne Families,
Our Dolphins are off to a strong start, and we are excited about the sense of community taking shape across Lake Anne! As students become more comfortable with their routines and classrooms, we are also beginning important conversations about what it means to be a member of our school community.
This week, we began grade-level conversations focused on Student Rights and Responsibilities. These conversations give our Dolphins an opportunity to think about how their choices, actions, and interactions contribute to a positive school environment. We are grounding this work in our Lake Anne values of Rigor, Respect, and Relationships and helping students understand what these values look and sound like in their everyday experiences.
We believe our students should have a voice in shaping the culture of our school, and these conversations are an important part of that work. When students understand both their rights and their responsibilities, they are better equipped to advocate for themselves, support one another, and take ownership of the community we share.
Thank you for continuing to partner with us as we build a school where every Dolphin can learn, belong, and thrive. We are proud of the community we are building together and look forward to continuing to make waves at Lake Anne!

Arrival and Dismissal Reminders
The safety of our students, families, and staff is something we all share responsibility for. As you travel to and from Lake Anne, please slow down, minimize distractions, and remain fully attentive behind the wheel, especially in our Kiss & Ride area.
We also ask that families please do not pass other vehicles on the left while in the Kiss & Ride line. Students may exit vehicles from the left side, and passing creates a serious safety risk for our Dolphins. Please remain in the designated lane, follow the direction of staff, and allow the line to move safely and patiently.
A few extra seconds of patience can make a tremendous difference. Thank you for helping us protect our Dolphin community and ensuring that every student arrives at school and gets home safely.

Advanced Academic Programs
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction. A continuum of Advanced Academic Program (AAP) services is available to students in Grades K-12 and is designed to match services to each student’s unique academic needs.
Identification for Subject-Specific and Part-Time AAP services occurs throughout the school year. Full-Time AAP services have two identification cycles:

Fall identification: Students in grades 3-7 who have enrolled in FCPS since January may be referred by October 15, 2026.

Spring identification: Any FCPS student in Grades 2-7 may be referred by December 15, 2026.
FCPS uses ability testing as one consideration in the holistic identification process for AAP services.
- All students in Grade 2 take the Naglieri General Ability Tests (NGAT).
- Students in Grades 3-6 who do not have a multi-domain ability test score take the NGAT.
- Students in Grades 3-6 may retake an ability test one time. Families may request the ability test retake by contacting Leslie Grumbach, School Testing Coordinator, at lcgrumbach@fcps.edu by September 30.
Families are invited to attend two AAP information meetings, led by Miki Citron, our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART):

AAP Continuum of Services: September 15 at 5:00p in the cafeteria. Families will learn about the continuum of advanced academic services available to FCPS students.

Full-Time AAP Identification: November 10 at 5:30p in the cafeteria. Families will learn about the referral and identification processes for Full-Time AAP services.

Las Escuelas Públicas del Condado de Fairfax (FCPS) están comprometidas con ofrecer desafíos académicos a todos los estudiantes mediante el desarrollo de talentos y la instrucción diferenciada. Calling All Community Gardeners!
The LAES Edible Garden has grown abundantly this summer and needs adult support to weed the garden before students can work in it.
Can you donate an hour or two of your time?

Composting Volunteers
Can you come to school during lunch time for 2 hours once a week to help students collect food scraps to take to the courtyard composting bins? If you enjoy a few wiggly worms and enthusiastic students, this could be the most fun you have all day! Sign up here or use the QR code.
LAES students collect food scraps for composting on Thursdays. Students love taking the scraps to the courtyard to feed the worms and make new soil to enrich our school garden, but the students can’t do it alone. We need parent & community volunteers who can supervise and guide the students. Not sure how? Don’t worry, we’ll train you! Please make sure you've cleared the FCPS volunteer screener before signing up.

Your Child’s Presence at School Matters
The beginning of the school year is the best time to develop strong attendance habits! Students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform well in reading and math, develop strong social and emotional skills, and graduate from high school on time. Help prepare your child for future success by helping them build good habits.
