Dear Mantua families,
One of our very special times of the day is our Morning Meeting. Morning Meeting gives students a chance to gather, share news and stories, connect what they’ve learned, and get to know one another better. This time gives the day a soft landing and helps students acclimate to the classroom in a gentle way. We’ve shared some photos of a few 2nd grade and preschool classrooms focusing on Morning Meeting today!
We warmly welcome all families to our Back to School Night on September 16th. This evening is an important opportunity for you to visit your child's classroom and meet their teachers. To help with parking and allow families with multiple students to connect with more teachers, we've divided the evening into two sessions. Please see those details below. We look forward to seeing you there!
As we close out the week, we recognize that this has been a hard one for our community, and our hearts and thoughts are with those impacted by this week’s events.
We also pause to recognize the 25th anniversary of September 11. We remember the lives lost, honor the heroism of our first responders, and reflect on the resilience of our country.

Blue Star Welcome Week Movement Monday
Join us for a special Movement Monday on September 28 at 8:30 a.m. as we celebrate and honor military families that have moved into our community! Blue Star Welcome Week is a national recognition of military families and the sacrifice they make as they uproot their families and move to new job assignments. Celebrate with us at Movement Monday with a walk and some special treats!

AAP Information Night
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction. A continuum of Advanced Academic Program (AAP) services is available to students in Grades K-12 and is designed to match services to each student’s unique academic needs.
Identification for Subject-Specific and Part-Time AAP services occurs throughout the school year. Full-Time AAP services have two identification cycles:

Fall identification: Students in grades 3-7 who have enrolled in FCPS since January may be referred by October 15, 2026.
-
Spring identification: Any FCPS student in Grades 2-7 may be referred by December 15, 2026.
FCPS uses ability testing as one consideration in the holistic identification process for AAP services.
- All students in Grade 2 take the Naglieri General Ability Tests (NGAT).
- Students in Grades 3-6 who do not have a multi-domain ability test score take the NGAT.
- Students in Grades 3-6 may retake an ability test one time. Families may request the ability test retake by contacting our School Testing Coordinators, Lindsey Knoll and Cooper Sved, at ljknoll@fcps.edu or casved@fcps.edu by September 30.
Families are invited to attend an AAP information meeting, led by Jen Howard, our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART), on Thursday, October 1st from 6-7:30 pm in the cafeteria. The meeting will cover the AAP Continuum of Services and the Full-Time AAP Identification process, with a short break in between.

AAP Continuum of Services: Families will learn about the continuum of advanced academic services available to FCPS students.

Full-Time AAP Identification: Families will learn about the referral and identification processes for Full-Time AAP services.

National Hispanic Heritage Month
From September 15 to October 15, FCPS recognizes and celebrates the histories and cultures of the members of our community who trace their heritage to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Family Needs Assessment Survey
The School Social Worker and Family Liaison at Mantua Elementary School work together to support students and families during the school year. This information will help us connect you with helpful school and community resources. Please read this form carefully and check the boxes to receive more information on services that may be available to you. You will receive a paper version on Tuesday Folders.

Stay in the Know With Here Comes the Bus
Even though FCPS has launched a new bus navigation system, some aspects like the new FCPS My Ride mobile app are still in development. Families should still use the Here Comes the Bus mobile app to track the location of their child’s bus. This app is still compatible with the new system.
FCPS will notify families and schools when the new app is ready to download and use. In the meantime, everyone should reinforce with students that they need to tap on and off the bus with their student ID cards.
Did you already download the new app? That’s okay! The new app is in the final stage of testing, so some features are not yet fully functional. At this time, you should refer to Here Comes the Bus for the most accurate information.
