The media industry continues to manufacture forecasts of doom, but harder data say that this is a great time to be an American—arguably the greatest in all of our spectacular history. On Tuesday the federal government reported that after adjusting for inflation, the typical U.S. household is making more than ever: The U.S. Census Bureau today announced that real
median household income was $87,460 in 2025, the highest on record dating back to 1967. The official poverty rate fell 0.5 percentage points to 10.2% in 2025… Last year’s new record high in real median household income represented a solid increase of 2.6% compared with 2024. And even after accounting for the burden of taxes it was still a bountiful year for U.S. households. The Census Bureau reported: Post-tax income is defined as money income net of federal and state taxes and credits, as well as
payroll taxes (FICA).
