Hi ala,
My husband and I went to see the Great Elephant Migration, an art installation of 100 life-size elephants in downtown Boston.
I was in love. Then I saw the sign, "Buy an elephant". I had to look.
Let's just say, I don't have Elephant Money.
So, I've started asking people, what would they do if they had Elephant Money?
You have so much money you could, without a thought, just buy an elephant statue for your home or office. (If you have to ask how much an elephant costs, you probably don't have Elephant Money either.)
Our team collectively decided that if we had Elephant Money, we would buy a whole family of elephants to put in the solarium. Of course, we would first have to get a building with a solarium. Elephants, because you don't buy just one.
Elephant Money rules are simple:
- Discard thoughts of anything practical immediately.
- No paying off school loans and mortgages or funding cures.
- Buy something completely frivolous, unnecessary and wonderful.
What you would do with Elephant Money? So far, my favorite Elephant Money idea is a fully-stocked, two-story home library, complete with rolling library ladders, brass rails and a secret entrance.
So what are the speaker lessons here?
- Give an idea a name and people will remember it...and you.
- Your everyday life is full of rich material that you can use in your speaking career.
- Sometimes, the best audience participation comes AFTER the presentation.
