Hey Ala,
Here's a pattern I just saw twice, on two different advisory calls, with two very successful founders.
Founder one: 8 figures, huge ad budget, tons of footage captured. Nothing ships.
Founder two: massive network, high-end podcast in production, editors hired. No one owns where any of it goes.
Both of them thought they had a broken content system. Both of them actually had shit distribution. And distribution is a seat, not a task.
That seat is the social media manager, and I think it's the most important hire in any personal media company.
Here's why.
Think of your content operation like cutting grass. Your video team mows. They film the interviews, make the long-form, cut the clips. That's where the raw material gets made. But somebody has to rake it all up, bag it, and get it to the curb on schedule. That's the social media manager. Without them, you just have a beautifully mowed lawn covered in clippings.
What mine actually owns:
Don't hire a scheduler. Hire the CEO of distribution: a mini CEO who keeps the whole machine honest.
Two hiring rules I gave both founders:
One: hire a hybrid, not a generalist. Someone fluent in YOUR space who also has media chops beats a pure social person you have to teach the industry. You can train process. You can't easily train fluency.
Two: pay for one badass instead of two average people. One proper person who owns the whole thing outruns two $2K people who share it. Extreme ownership is key.
Mine has been with me 4 years. She's a massive reason 97% of our cash comes from organic.
By the way, this seat is one piece of a bigger machine, and on Tuesday night I'm walking through the whole thing live: the full org, the systems each seat runs, and how my part stays at 60 minutes a month. Free workshop, September 22 at 5pm ET. Grab a seat here.
Let's win together,
Matt
P.S. Steve Gatena's machine took him from $85K MRR to $7 million ARR in a new business line, plus 120,000 organic LinkedIn followers. Somebody owned distribution every single day of that run.
P.P.S. Tuesday's workshop is where I show how the Social Media Manager, the Producer-Editor, and the Designer all plug into one content engine. If you're deciding who to hire first, come watch before you post the job.
