Dear Test, I’ve sent you a number of messages over the past weeks with a single through line: as machines become more powerful, our greatest reply is to become more of what makes us human.
My sincere hope for you is that you use this time of cataclysmic change (it will accelerate) to understand the things that only our species can do and then fortify your daily dedication to deepening and illuminating them.
I’ll be walking participants at the upcoming The Fully Human Sessions through each element to achieve this along with the frameworks and protocols to bring them to life, yet today I wanted to list a few:
1. Your Creativity. When you were a child you lived in bursts of remarkable imaginativeness. Your eyes sparkled and clouds looked like lions. You wished to be an astronaut and a superhero. I pray you get that gleam back. Robots don’t have it.
2. Your Craftsmanship. Machines can do things increasingly well. But they are not artisans. This morning I walked by an ancient studio in Rome where an old man produced ceramics. It seems that he’d done so for decades and he worked with devotion, steadiness and bright mastery. I wish this for you.
3. Your Empathy. Machines can’t care. Sure, they can fake it but they don’t feel it. Your human heart has no artificially made equal. It just doesn’t! Consider the wisdom and the courage and the love resting within it. Please, polish (and honor) this.
4. Your Upliftment. To be human is to have a clear (or hidden) purpose within your soul that only you can do. That only you can see. That only you can complete. I wish you find it and then make this genius real.
