New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is launching a new initiative called “Opera for All.” The city, in partnership with the Metropolitan Opera, will give away 10,000 free opera tickets a month until the end of the 2026-27 season. They will be distributed via lottery to New York City residents who have never purchased Met tickets before. “Every New Yorker should have the opportunity to sit in these seats, hear these voices and experience this stage,” said Mamdani.
A former 7-Eleven in Seattle has been transformed into an “Inconvenience Store” featuring brilliantly annoying items such as pretangled USB cords. The interactive art exhibit features “abstracted interpretations” of objects you would normally find at an American convenience store, the exhibit’s creators said on social media. The shop, created by artists Lilia Deering and Mary Anne Carter, also features a “landline iPhone” that, when answered, only plays “Vertigo” by U2.
