A Russian propaganda operation tricked schools in Latin America, stoked tension between Ukraine and Poland and drew responses from politicians in several countries, OpenAI said, sharing a report documenting foreign influence campaigns that used ChatGPT to varying degrees.

In the report, previewed exclusively by NBC News, the company details how the Russian operators used ChatGPT to document their campaigns and at times to inflate their impact to their bosses. Separately, the report says OpenAI found an Iranian campaign that used fake Western personas and AI-refined columns that were published in 26 smaller outlets around the world.
