Where else would an 18th-century revival begin but Paris? This season, Acne Studios, Vivienne Westwood and Schiaparelli all borrowed from Versailles: corseted silhouettes, frothy ruffles, crystal embellishment and dramatic draping. But this isn't fancy dress. The trick is to rough it up a little: a worn leather jacket thrown over a billowing skirt, or a corseted gown worn with hands in pockets. Pretty, but never precious. To finish the look, reach for a jewel-like evening bag, a soft pastel top-handle or anything with a bow from the Cocoon edit. |
