People on all rungs of the career ladder can suffer from imposter syndrome, and seeing yourself on screen in virtual meetings can exacerbate the problem, says career expert Valerie Young. Professionals can address the issue by learning to view criticism, failure and mistakes differently and remembering that success "[is] not about knowing everything; it's about not knowing with confidence," Young says.

Introverted employees used to putting on a more outgoing face in the office should take the opportunity to shine in the work-from-home environment by building deeper, one-on-one connections with coworkers, leadership consultant Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic writes. Just as in the in-person world, employers tend to focus more on how you perform than what you produce, he says.

Inclusive Leadership
The annual White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities will be held online beginning Monday. The five-day, open-to-the-public event includes public and private partners focusing on accelerating competitiveness of HBCUs, the lack of funding compared with other universities, and some students' lack of digital access during the pandemic.

The Susan Sandler Fund will direct $200 million in grants to Advance Native Political Leadership, the Asian American & Pacific Islander Civic Engagement Fund and other social justice organizations. "I have worked hard to use [my] privilege to do what I can to make this world a better place, and I am grateful that we have been able to create the Susan Sandler Fund as a vehicle to support the work of transformative leaders and organizations," writes Sandler.

The survey also found that 58% of new remote workers who don't currently freelance would consider it in the future, while Upwork CEO Hayden Brown said, "We expect this trend to continue as companies increasingly rely on freelancers as essential contributors to their own operations."
