Cleaning your bedding feels like a herculean feat — you know cleaning it is the right thing to do, but for some reason, the idea of lugging sheets and pillows to the washer seems tedious. Ironically, nothing makes you feel more like a responsible adult than cleaning your bed and aggressively fluffing a pillow like it owes you money. Since it’s Sleep Week at NBC Select, we’re sharing our favorite tips for cleaning every part of your bedding, plus exclusive discounts on luxurious sheets, pajamas and more, because your sleep deserves an upgrade.

Mattress: The minute you start to think about cleaning your mattress, you’re hit by this unnerving sense of dread because you should have probably cleaned it months ago — at least that's how I feel. For a non-memory foam mattress, you’ll need a vacuum, steamer, stain remover and baking soda. The cleaning process for a memory foam bed is slightly different based on its material.
Mattresses come in different forms and certain varieties react differently to cleaning. Memory foam can retain a lot of moisture over time, so you should use caution when cleaning it with liquids like water, steam or cleaning sprays, according to Mallory Micetich, the vice president of corporate communications at Angi.

Pillow: Our experts explained that washing your pillowcases is only half the job. It's important to know what type of pillows you have before washing them because this will determine the best way to clean them, according to Kadi Dulude, owner of the cleaning company Wizard of Homes. If you have down and down-alternative pillows, you’ll want to throw the entire pillow into the washer on a gentle cycle and use cold water with mild detergent. You’ll also want to put the pillows in the dryer and tumble dry on low heat.
