Between 2008 and 2022, rates of pre-cancerous cervical lesions in women between the ages of 20 and 24 plummeted by around 80%, according to a new CDC report. This "adds to evidence" that the HPV vaccine Gardasil, first recommended in the U.S. in 2006, is "preventing cervical cancer in young women," said The Associated Press. HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the U.S. and causes about 10,800 cervical cancers annually.

Cells can develop new abilities after their source organism dies

The Video Stop in Pocatello, Idaho, is closed to all but one important customer: Christina Cavanaugh, who for 15 years has come in almost every day to rent a movie. Cavanaugh has Down syndrome and is mostly nonverbal, and renting videos has been "vital" to her routine, said East Idaho News. Video Stop owner David Kraning wanted to stay open for Cavanaugh, so he turned a corner of his adjacent minimart into a video section, filled with Cavanaugh's favorite films.

For nearly 20 years, a llama named Whitetop has been comforting kids at Victory Junction, a free camp in Randleman, North Carolina, for children with serious health issues like cancer, cerebral palsy and heart disease. The "sweet" llama came to Victory Junction in 2006 and "really gets to help campers come out of their shell," director Billie Davis said to The Associated Press. When he's not letting kids pet him, Whitetop enjoys posing for selfies and rolling in fresh wood chips.
