Annual Student Council Supply Drive
This year, the Student Council is collecting hygiene supplies for the Falls Church Homeless Shelter. Their mission is to serve our community by providing shelter, food, and counseling services for adults in need during the winter season and by offering access to housing placement services to empower our guests and help break the cycle of homelessness.
Items will be accepted Wednesday, 2/26 - Friday, 3/14
Needed items include:
- Toothbrushes/toothpaste
- dental floss
- mouthwash (alcohol-free)
- deodorant (travel or full-size)
- bar soap
- shampoo and conditioner
- Lotion
- combs and brushes
- lip balm
- tissues (individual packs)

International Day/Night
International Day Fashion Show
Walk the Red Carpet in Fashion!
Franconia Elementary will be holding an International Day Program on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at 1:45pm. We are looking for students who are willing to walk the red carpet and model their culture-based outfits at the International Day Assembly. Interested students must have a signed permission form and a completed description on the origin of the outfit and any additional information about the outfit. Filling out this form confirms that you will be in the Fashion Show.
Please return the form below to Mrs. Yortzidis by March 26.

For Franconia's K-2 Career Day
Friday, April 4
Franconia Elementary School will be hosting Career Day entitled “Oh, the Places You’ll Go” inspired by Dr. Seuss. The event will be held on Friday, April 4th ( Rain date, Friday April 11th from 1:00-2:30).
On Career Day, you are invited to share your vehicle! This will give students the opportunity to touch and explore different vehicles' while learning about your career. If you have a vehicle for students explore and love speaking to young children, then we need you! If interested, please complete the Google Form HERE.
The last day to submit your interest is by Monday, March 24th. Please feel free to forward this form to interested parties. For further questions, please contact school counselor, Veronica Guillion at 703-822-2200. ( examples of vehicles are: limo services, food trucks, energy and gas trucks, tractor, gaming truck, or pet mobile).
World Down Syndrome Day at Franconia ES!
March 21
Franconia Elementary students will be celebrating World Down Syndrome Day. During each grade-levels’ specials block, classes will have the opportunity to walk, run, and move!
World Down Syndrome Day is a global opportunity to raise awareness and celebrate the unique abilities of individuals with Down syndrome. We are EXTRA lucky to have many connections to the Down Syndrome community right here in FES!
Why Participate?
- Raise awareness about Down syndrome and promote inclusion.
- Show support for our students and community members with Down syndrome.
- Enjoy a fun and active event.

2025 Family Summit
Beyond Labels: Nurturing a Culture of Belonging! (an Extension of the Special Education Conference)
Families, educators, and community members are invited to the 2025 FCPS Family Summit: Beyond Labels: Nurturing a Culture of Belonging. Fairfax County Public Schools will be hosting the free, in-person event in collaboration with valued community partners. The summit will be held Saturday, March 15, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at South Lakes High School.
This event will feature:
- Opening Session: Julie Causton and Kristie Pretti-Frontczak — best-selling authors, motivational speakers, and advocates for inclusion — will share practical tools and evidence-based strategies to empower and assist all families, with a special emphasis on parents of students with individual education programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans.
- Breakout Sessions: Learn more about special education and global topics that benefit all families.
- Student Showcase: FCPS students will share their efforts in fostering inclusivity through posters, essays, videos, songs, art, and other mediums.
- Exhibitor Hall: Discover valuable resources and services in the community to support families.
- Networking Opportunities: Connect with other families, staff, and community partners.
Childcare will be provided. Special education staff will be available to care for children with high support needs. You may sign up for childcare during the registration process.

Camp Registration Open March 10
Prepare for a Summer of Learning and Fun
Registration will be available soon for summer camps offered by Fairfax County Public Schools for all students. Career and Technical Education (CTE) camps and Institute for the Arts (IFTA) camps will be held in July at Lake Braddock Secondary School from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bus transportation will be available from select FCPS middle and high schools. Registration begins for these programs on Monday, March 10, and ends Friday, June 6.
Tech Adventure Camp (TAC) is a week-long exploratory camp designed to allow current K-5 students to explore activities in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math), culinary arts, health, trades, and business and marketing areas. Watch this video about CTE camps.
E-IFTA is a weekly arts camp for students in grades 2-5 who love to sing, dance, act, perform, make, and create. Students take part in four daily classes related to dance, music, theater, and visual art. They work with FCPS fine arts teachers who create fun and engaging classes.

The event will have over 100 vendors offering tons of handmade and unique items. The silent auction will be filled with sporting event tickets, rounds of golf, a FULL braces package from First Impressions and LOTS of other fun items!
Be sure to come hungry as there will be plenty of sweet treats and a variety of food trucks to satisfy any palate! You can also get your picture with the Easter Bunny!
FREE ADMISSION FOR EVERYONE!
***All proceeds from the event will benefit the Class of 2025 All Night Grad Party. The ANGP will be at The St. James in June and will be a FUN, alcohol/drug/tobacco and SAFE event for our graduates! March 28 - Quarter End, Eid al-Fitr, and Teacher Workday
Friday, March 28, is the last day of the third quarter. It is a full day of school for students.
