One cold and gray March morning a few years back, I admit I was feeling sorry for myself. After months of hobbling around on the slippery, snow-covered ground on crutches, my mood matched the dreary weather. That was, until I watched a courageous child make the best of a situation far worse than mine.
It began with a Christmas Eve phone call from an orthopedic physician following a diagnostic MRI, confirming my fears. “I will need to see you in the office the day after Christmas,” the young doctor said with compassion.
