Aviation Update
Seven drone pilots recently competed at the Oracle Industry Laboratory in Deerfield, Ill., to test their skills in data collection and analysis under challenging conditions. Alex Powers of Archer Daniels Midland won the competition, which aimed to highlight the use of drones in identifying construction site issues.

Airport Focus
The Medina County Historical Society recently toured the Medina Municipal Airport in Ohio. The tour highlighted historical connections, including pilot Joe Zarney, who flew Gen. George Patton during World War II, and Bruce Hallock, who served as President Lyndon Johnson's personal pilot. The airport has also been used by notable figures such as professional golfer Arnold Palmer.

Technology
The Downtown Skyport has been unveiled in New York City as a vertiport for electric air taxis, with construction set for later this year. The Federal Aviation Administration is expected to certify electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicles for commercial operations, paving the way for New York City to launch these new services.

Pilot Spotlight
Derek Holte, the first graduate from the flight school collaboration between Ascent Aviation and Lake Superior College in Duluth, Minn., has taken on the role of flight instructor at Ascent Aviation. Having started in January, Holte now mentors new students, building his flight hours and supporting the program that sparked his aviation career.

General Electric Aerospace is expanding its Batesville, Miss., facility in a $11 million project that is expected to create 100 jobs over three years. This expansion will introduce new industrial equipment and advanced inspection technology, supporting the production of components for aircraft engines.
