TOP OF THE AGENDA | US and UK to announce deal to reduce tariffs |
| | Back in February, UK PM Starmer travelled to the White House for talks with Trump. Credit: Reuters | The UK and US are set to announce a deal to reduce trade tariffs. It's not yet known what will be covered but it's thought there could be lower tariffs on cars, and a cut in the digital sales tax on US firms. As our deputy economics editor Dharshini David notes, for all the fanfare, this will not be a traditional free trade deal. However, it is the first to be done since President Donald Trump unveiled a raft of import taxes on countries across the world. Earlier this week the US and China announced the start of talks to try to de-escalate a trade war between the two. |

| BEYOND THE HEADLINES | The medics identifying remains from Syria's mass graves |
| | | As well as the hundreds of thousands who were killed, by one estimate, more than 130,000 people were forcibly disappeared under the former Syrian regime. Credit: BBC | Six months on from the ousting of Bashar al-Assad in Syria, work is underway to identify the remains of some of the hundreds of thousands killed during his regime and that of his father. Malak Aoude's teenage sons were two of those who were disappeared. As the painstaking work goes on to identify the victims of mass graves, she still doesn't know where their bodies lie. |
