Rural Community Hospital Demonstration Participation Announcement
Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that 10 additional hospitals will participate in the Rural Community Hospital (RCH) Demonstration Program.
The Rural Community Hospital (RCH) Demonstration tests a reasonable cost-based payment methodology for inpatient services provided by participating hospitals. RCH’s goal is to enhance the financial sustainability and service capacity of selected rural community hospitals by helping them better meet the health care needs of Medicare beneficiaries in their service areas. RCH also promotes the delivery of high-quality, efficient care.
The period of performance for all hospitals currently participating in the demonstration will continue as scheduled.
More information about the RCH Demonstration, including evaluation reports, can be found on the Demonstration's webpage.
On December 20, 2024, CMS issued a solicitation for additional hospitals to join the demonstration. Applications were due on March 1, 2025. Hospitals selected to participate may begin as early as May 1, 2025 and participate through June 30, 2028.
