Karen Read verdict watch: Jurors to continue deliberations Tuesday

Jurors in Karen Read’s second murder trial will continue their deliberations on Tuesday, as the defense questions the format of the verdict slip — a topic that was a major issue in Read’s first trial last year.

Meanwhile, the crowd of Read’s supporters has grown and it’s only expected to continue to do so on Tuesday now that the jury has deliberated for about nine hours. There is no court on Thursday due to the holiday, so many are anticipating to learn something soon.

Outside of court on Monday morning, Read told news media that she was feeling confident, but added that she felt frustrated over the verdict slip, particularly the second charge, manslaughter while operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor.

Summer temps arriving right on time with highs near 90 ahead

Ready or not, here it comes! The summer sizzle is about to get real here in Boston this week. We’re also tracking a few showers and thunderstorms on the way.

As we move through this Tuesday, lows clouds and patchy fog will give way to mostly cloudy skies. A few passing sprinkles and showers are possible Tuesday morning, but later in the evening, prepare for a few more scattered showers into the night.

An onshore flow will keep high temperatures in the upper 60s along the coast, while our inland communities will see highs in the low to mid 70s. It will also be quite muggy Tuesday, and this is just the beginning of more humid weather over the next several days.

How Craig Breslow and Sam Kennedy addressed Rafael Devers trade

Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow and president/CEO Sam Kennedy addressed the media on Monday, more than 24 hours after trading veteran slugger Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in a widely criticized move.

“Alignment” was the word of the night. Breslow and Kennedy used the word numerous times to describe Devers and the front office being on different pages since the team asked him to move from third base to designated hitter in spring training. The relationship worsened when Devers was asked to play first base in the wake of Triston Casas’ season-ending injury.

Devers was traded after the Red Sox completed a three-game sweep of the New York Yankees at Fenway Park, giving them eight wins in their last 10 games. The timing of the move was questionable, as it killed the good vibes surrounding the club and potentially resulted in Boston getting a worse return than it would have received had it waited until next month’s trade deadline.

‘I don't want any more pets to pass away': Veterinarian accused of abusing animals

A Swansea, Massachusetts, veterinarian accused by five former employees of abusing or mistreating animals in his care and performing substandard clinical work that led to the deaths of some pets is under state investigation for alleged misconduct.

Former employees of Dr. Carlos Silvera, who runs the Swansea Veterinary Center (SVC) along with his father, also named Dr. Carlos Silvera, claim he made violent threats against them to force them into silence. The elder Silvera denied all allegations of professional misconduct made against his son.

NBC10 Boston tried to speak with the younger Silvera about these allegations, but he was in jail following an arrest in January for allegedly firing a gun in his neighborhood and resisting arrest. He pleaded not guilty to those charges.
